CIRCULAR NO. 2008-01
SUBJECT:
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS FOR POST SECONDARY EDUCATION
The
following scholarship programs for post-secondary education are hereby
announced effective school year 2008-2009, for guidance of all
concerned:

ZUFI COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
A. Qualification of Scholar-Applicants
-
Must be a native of Zumarraga and/or
whose mother or father or both are Zumarraganhon;
-
Must have graduated with honors,
preferably Valedictorian and Salutatorian, and, to continue
receiving the grant, must maintain a general average of 85% with no
grade lower than 80% in any academic subject;
-
Must be of good moral character with no
criminal record;
-
Must be physically, emotionally, and
mentally fit to pursue studies/training; and,
-
Must not be a sister or brother of any
two (2) previous awardees. (To spread scholarship benefits to as
many families as may be afforded by the Program, a single family
shall be limited to only two (2) grantees)
B. Application Requirements
-
Application in writing, personally
signed by applicant with consent of parents/guardian;
-
Authenticated copies of High-School
grades and diploma;
-
Letter of recommendation from ZUFI
Trustee or Principal of one's High School Alma Mater;
-
Two (2) recent passport/ID colored
photos with plain white background;
-
Certificate of good moral character
from High School Principal and Local Parish Priest.
C. Application Processing
-
Applicant shall submit in writing an
application for scholarship to ZUFI , c/o any of the following:
a) The Chairman, Scholarship Committee;
b) The Chair, Foundation Local Arm; and/or,
c) The Secretary/ Exec. Director, together w/ all the required documents
enumerated above.
-
The Secretary/ Executive Director, in
coordination with the Chairman of the Foundation Local Arm and/or
the Scholarship Committee, shall short-list the prospective grantees
for approval by the Board based on such criteria as it may determine
and subject to such available grants that can be supported by the
current funds of the Foundation;
-
Upon receipt, the ZUFI Board shall
validate and act upon the submitted applications within a reasonable
period, in time for school registration;
-
Upon approval by the Board, the
Chairman/President of the Foundation shall cause the notification of
the approved scholarship grantees as may be appropriate; and,
finally,
-
The Treasurer shall accordingly cause
the release of the proper stipends/allowances upon the submission of
proof of college admission/ enrollment by the concerned grantee.
D.
Preferred Courses. Applicants for the following disciplines/
programs may be given preference over other applicants:
-
Nursing
-
IT/Computer Science
-
Engineering
-
Language Studies
-
Short-term Technical-vocational Courses

FACULTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM
This
program is designed to help upgrade teacher's pedagogical competencies
especially in the fields of science, mathematics and language.
A. Preferred Post Baccalaureate Courses
-
Diploma in Science Teaching (DST) –
with Biology, Chemistry and Physics as its major areas. It is designed
for the training of secondary science teachers composed of 26 units of
course work for each area to be completed in four semesters and one
summer term.
-
Diploma in Mathematics Teaching (DMT)
– provides an opportunity to mathematics teachers at the secondary level
who desire to improve their knowledge of the subject matter and to learn
to apply effective teaching strategies. This is also a 26 units of
course work to be completed in four semesters and one summer.
-
Diploma in Language Studies for Teachers
– designed to upgrade language teaching competencies and literacy in
basic education. With majors that include language and reading
education, the program consists of 24 units of course work that
can be completed in four semesters.

Diploma/Master in Social Studies
Education – designed to upgrade teachers’ competencies in teaching “Makabayan”.
This program is a 26 unit-course work that can be completed in four
semesters and one summer.
B. Qualifications of Teacher Scholar
Applicants
-
Must be currently employed as a
school teacher in Zumarraga or any of its barangays;
-
Must have rendered at least
five (5) years of continued school or government service;
-
Must be wiling to upgrade
his/her professional and pedagogical competencies through continuing
education;
-
Must be physically and
mentally fit to pursue quality higher studies;
-
Must not be over 40 years of
age;
-
Must be a Civil Service
Eligible or have passed the Professional Board Exams for Teachers (PBET)
or Licensure Exams for Teachers (LET); and,
-
Must present a certificate of
admission/ acceptance from the University of the Philippines Open
University (UPOU) or other duly recognized institution in the
academic program to be undertaken.
C. Application Procedures
-
Qualified applicants must signify their
intentions to avail of this Faculty Enhancement Grant in writing
directly addressed to the ZUFI Board, with the Executive Director
shall initially processing and short-listing interested applicants
for this grant;
-
Short-listed qualified applicants shall
signify their intention in writing to avail of this Faculty
Enhancement Grant in writing directly addressed to the ZUFI Board;
and,
-
The Board shall select who among the
qualified applicants will be extended faculty enhancement grants on
such programs and duration as it may determine from time to time.
D. Notes on Open Learning/Distance
Education
The above courses are among the Graduate
Degree Program of the U.P. Open University (UPOU) recognized by the
Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as the National Center of
Excellence in Open Learning and Distance Education. Learning is
individualized, such that, in general, students are:
-
physically
separated from the professor by geographic location, professional
commitments and/or filial obligations;
-
self-directed and independent; they
study on their own time and at their own place;
-
study on their own specially designed
learning packages prepared by a quality circle consisting of subject
matter specialists, instructional designers, illustrators, editors,
and multimedia designers; these learning packages make use of
multimedia such as print, audio, video, computer programs, and the
internet;

STIPEND/ ALLOWANCE
Stipends/Allowances shall be as follows: a) College: PhP 5,000.00 per
semester in the province and PhP 10,000.00 per semester in highly
urbanized areas (Metro Manila); and, for b) Faculty Enhancement: full
tuition cost of the academic program. Depending on future projections of
the financial health of the Foundation, such stipends/allowances may be
adjusted accordingly as the board may deem proper.
